Joanna Bailey is a ceramic artist living and working in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Joanna’s latest work, STRATA,  is a deeply personal collection exploring the dichotomy between perception and permanence. How we experience the world and how we and the world change over time. Inspired by the natural beauty of Iceland, STRATA captures the ephemeral nature of memories, how they can distort, fragment and become rearranged in our minds. It invites the viewer to reflect upon their own memories of a time and place, in a medium made from the earth itself. 

Created using layers of stained clay, each piece is hand built and collaged to depict memories of the mountains and glaciers of Iceland.
